Anna Fer

Anna Fer

Born in 1941, Anna Fer is a multidisciplinary Filipino artist whose work weaves together ecology, memory, womanhood, and cultural storytelling. With a background in literature, painting, and Asian studies, her practice moves between drawing, painting, installation, and illustration—often rooted in both personal reflection and ethnographic collaboration.

She is a founding member of Kasibulan (Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na Kamalayan), a feminist arts collective that has shaped the landscape of women’s art in the Philippines. Her work has been exhibited widely, from early introspective pieces like Emanation (1979), to Palawan Highlands (1983), a collaboration with ethnolinguist Nicole Revel, and The Earth Triptych (1991), a mural series exploring the ecological and mythic ties between woman and land.

Anna Fer has participated in major exhibitions locally and abroad, including the Havana Biennale, At Home & Abroad, and Alab ng Puso at the Metropolitan Museum, where her installation Panauhing Pandangal brought Philippine revolutionary figures into contemporary dialogue. Her illustrations appear in landmark publications on Philippine epics, women’s narratives, and cultural studies, reflecting a lifelong commitment to storytelling—visual, historical, and deeply human.
